Emerging markets specialist Somerset Capital Management has appointed Min Chen and Lilian Tai to the new roles of portfolio manager and analyst on its China team.
Tai and Chen previously worked together at Singapore-based alternatives specialist Dymon Asia where Chen was portfolio manager on the firm’s China-focused fund, Prospect View China.
As part of the team hires, Somerset Capital will take over management of the Prospect View China Fund on November 1. David Heng, the senior China analyst at Somerset Capital, will take on the role of assistant portfolio manager.
Prior to joining Dymon Asia in 2018, Chen was head of China at RWC Partners, managing director at Everest Partners and chief representative of Arisaig Partners in Shanghai.
Tai, meanwhile, brings over eight years’ experience investing in Asian emerging market equities with a particular focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) research in China.
Dominic Johnson, CEO and founding partner of Somerset Capital, said: “The opportunities for bottom-up stockpickers in China are significant, but it remains a large underweight for many international investors who are understandably wary of the ongoing trade war and some of China’s other challenges, such as corporate governance.”
