Chemours Company names COO
The Chemours Company announced the promotion of Mark Newman to the newly created role of chief operating officer. Newman previously served as the company’s chief financial officer. Additionally, vice president of business finance and treasurer Sameer Ralhan has been promoted to the position of senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.
Newman joined Chemours in 2014 prior to its spin-off from DuPont. He has held the position of senior vice president and CFO since 2015, when The Chemours Company became a stand-alone, publicly-traded company.
He received his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and earned his Master of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. He is the executive sponsor of the Chemours Black Employees Network (CBEN) and serves on the board of directors for Altria Group, Inc.
Ralhan holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, as well as MS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from Rice University, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.
Chesapeake Utilities Corporation announces Hall of Fame recipient
Chesapeake Utilities Corporation announced that Calvert A. Morgan, Jr., a member of the company’s Board of Directors since 2000, has been named a 2019 Delaware Business Leaders Hall of Fame inductee by the Junior Achievement of Delaware Leadership Council. Morgan serves as Chairman of the Company’s Corporate Governance Committee and as a member of its Compensation Committee and Investment Committee.
Prelude Theraputics names chief medical officer
Prelude Theraputics announced David Mauro, MD, Ph.D., was named Chief Medical Officer. Mauro comes to Prelude with strong drug development experience in positions of increasing responsibility at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck and most recently Checkmate Pharmaceuticals as its Chief Medical Officer.
Prelude is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company based near Wilmington in the Delaware Innovation Space, a biotechnology incubator.
Junior League honors Henry
Retired Delaware State Sen. Margaret Rose Henry has received the Association of Junior Leagues International’s (AJLI’s) highest individual award, a recognition accorded to only one of its more than 140,000 members each year.
She was presented with the 2019 Mary Harriman Community Leadership Award. The Harriman Award acknowledges a Junior League member whose service provides a contemporary link to Junior League founder Mary Harriman’s sense of social responsibility and her ability to motivate others to share their talents through effective volunteer action. Since 1990, when the award was established, it has been given to Junior League members whose leadership exemplifies the Junior League mission, vision and values.
Baker, Bracy join council staff
Wilmington City President Hanifa Shabazz announced the appointments of former Mayor James Baker and Latisha Bracy.
Baker, who has 40-plus years of public and private experience, will be joining the council staff as a Senior Advisor.
Bracy, who has close to two decades of experience in public affairs and government relations will handle all communications and public relations.
Before launching her own firm, Latisha was most recently a Public Affairs Official for IKEA North American Services LLC.
Latisha spent over 15 years working in the governmental offices of U.S. Senators Coons, Carper, and Kaufman. She also was the Field Organizer for Citizens for Biden and the Campaign Manager for U.S. Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester.
Delaware Community Foundation names board member
The Delaware Community Foundation welcomed Lossie Freeman as a new member of its Board of Directors.
As Special Assistant for Employment Initiatives to Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, Freeman is responsible for the development of an employment infrastructure that will create better opportunities for unemployed citizens.
She earned her master’s of public administration in economic policy management from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Afterwards she worked briefly for the U.S. Department of State at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, China, in the economic/political section, where she conducted research for policymakers and received special recognition from the U.S. Ambassador to China. Most recently she was vice president of global business development for Parnassus Global Agency in Washington, D.C.
SoDel Concepts names brewmaster at Thompson Island
Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts, recently announced that Jimmy Valm will be the opening brewmaster at Thompson Island Brewing Company, the hospitality group’s 12th restaurant, which is currently under construction in Rehoboth Beach.
Valm received a degree in brewing and distilling from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He’s worked at Heineken UK in Manchester, England, and at Brooklyn Brewery’s Williamsburg, Virginia, facility. He most recently worked at Cape May Brewing Company during a period of unprecedented growth for the New Jersey brewery, which expanded from 6,000 barrels of beer in 2016 to more than 18,000 in 2018.
Valm will collaborate with John Troegner of Tröegs Independent Brewing, a longtime client of SoDel Concepts’ management consulting division.
Berkshire Hathaway Fox & Roach announces associate
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Realtors, Hockessin-Pike Creek Home Marketing Center, welcomed Colin Gordon as a sales associate. . A graduate of the University of Delaware, he has a degree in English. Licensed since 2019, Gordon serves New Castle County.
